Zebra herd
A beautiful herd of zebras came plowing over this hill in Tarengire national park, to come drink from the river.

We met these little guys at the entrance to the Serengeti national park in Tanzania. Documentaries I had seen explained that baboons would tear your face off at the first opportunity, but we were surrounded by swarms of them and they were mostly quite standoffish around us. They were more interested in breaking into cars […]
Food isn’t a strong point of Tanzania in my opinion. But while there, Basia and I did manage to track down a couple of restaurants with decent food.
Near the entrance to Serengeti national park, I found a large number of chameleon’s hanging out on rocks. Unfortunately, they usually ran away whenever I tried to get near, but I did manage to snap this picture of one of these little beauties before it took off.
I’ve always thought of zebra’s as majestic animals. I never thought I would think of them like sheep on the side of the road, but after four days of plodding through the Tanzanian wilderness, they had just become the standard animal that see everywhere. It seemed that no matter where you looked, there were zebra’s! […]
Basia and I went swimming with dolphins on Zanzibar in Tanzania. I definitely want to try this again some time. It was super fun.
I have no idea what this bird is, but it was a giant graceful thing which just slowly meandered into our camp site near Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It seemed to be very tolerant of humans and only backed off when I got right up in it’s face with a camera. EDIT: David Lockie pointed out […]

We got to hang out with some Bushbaby’s at the Cheetahs Rock animal sanctuary in Tanzania. Bushbaby’s are small primates which are native to Africa. They were very friendly and seemed to enjoy getting to hang out with humans for a bit.
I’ve seen elephants all of the world, but they have always been tortured animals kept in captivity. But when visiting Tarangire national park in Tanzania, I saw more elephants than I’d seen in the rest of my life, but they were free! These huge graceful animals were just plodding about the countryside and didn’t seem […]
Some photos from a recent trip to Magdeburg.
Tanay was making a video of our trip back Magdeburg on the train, so I snapped this picture of his setup with my new camera.
I bought a Ricoh GRIIIx and this is the first picture I took with it π
Basia and I saw a raccoon in PlΓ€nterwald today. It was adorably cute and came very close to us. It kept diving in and out of this rubbish bin, hunting for food.
Basia and I lost our hiking group, so decided to make a detour to Pfauninsel, which translates to Peacock island in English. It has a total of 30 peacock’s roaming about the island, along with more who live in protective cages.
They feel something, then think in depth about their feelings, and then validate those feelings as their new conception of reality, never having to expose that process to the objective light of anything/anyone external. And the problem is that subjectively of course, that feels exactly the same as a truth arrived at by more rigorous […]
This is a plan under development … ATTENDEE LIMIT = 20 MUST DO NUMBER COUNT AND MAKE SURE NOBODY DROPS OFF INADVERTENTLY. DATE = Saturday 2022-06-04 This event is being run in conjunction with the Psychedelic Society Berlin (https://www.facebook.com/groups/364225797498545) and is open to anyone with an interest in the wonderful world of psychedelics. Our intention […]
There’s a heated discussion currently about whether Finland and Sweden should join NATO. The Russian government views this as a provocation, despite NATO having never shown any indications of threatening Russia. Imagine a world where the conversation was about whether Russia should join NATO. This could have happened if the Russian government didn’t shove it’s […]
Julia and I visited the memorial to the Sinti and Roma people who died during World War 2.
I finally visited the former NSA spy station on top of Teufelsberg in Berlin. I’ve walked around it, to it, toward it and anything else you can imagine, but never went into it. I went with my friend Diana who was visiting for the weekend.
Just because the law defines something as a crime, does not mean it is something that should be prosecuted. New Zealand has a blasphemy law. Police don’t waste their time prosecuting people for being blasphemous because they know it’s a stupid law. The same should apply to weed. – Ryan Hellyer
I’m not much of a food blogger, but this was too weird not to mention. I had vegan beef tartar for dinner today. I wouldn’t touch real beef tartar with a pole, but I tried the vegan version. I described it as “a bit weird”. Not bad, just weird. It was apparently made from rice […]
Tonight I had Huels new Mexican Chilli soup. Just add hot water and you have an INSTANT meal π None of this faffing about with stove tops and vegetables and crap. This is probably the closest I’ll ever get to becoming a soldier … I feel like I just ate an MRE for dinner. The […]
adjective Very annoying or objectionable; offensive or odious. Exposed or subject to harm, injury, or evil. Deserving of or liable to censure. π
I’m just sharing this here, because I assume it won’t get reported elsewhere. The man in blue here was caught intoxicated directly behind the frontlines in Mariupol, firing a machine gun at random apartment buildings.
I’ve never made vegetable soup, so I just grabbed some vegetables, herbs, a dried Carolina reaper, some MSG and pepper in and put it on slow cook mode in my rice cooker along with a little water. Two hours later, and I’ve realised you definitely don’t need that much herbs in there and all of […]
I appeared on an episode of the Caution: May cause Wanderlust podcast with Elaine Long.
In the episode, we discussed culture shock and unexpected differences on moving to a foreign country, simple miscommunications, bureaucratic oddities and other things.
I watched the video of Vladimir Putin addressing how the war on Ukraine came to be. Here is my brain dump after watching it … He missed one fundamental question … why does nobody trust Russia? I feel this is a self-answering question. Russia has a track record of invading countries, which has been ironically […]
I last tried cooking this back around the year 2000. Fast forward 22 years, and there’s a lot better resources available online for cooking food like this, and my first attempt was a complete failure … so I didn’t take a picture of it. This is my second attempt and I’m super happy with it. […]
Today is the anniversary of the most amazing moment of my life. I had long known that I suffered from extreme anxiety and panic attacks. In the past few years, this had become combined with extreme anger. My anger was not directed at anything or anyone in particular. I was simply angry for what felt […]

There’s a fine line between madness and genius. Some dance on the verge. Some fly off the edge into the abyss. – Ryan Hellyer
Racism will always exist. Humans fear that which is not the same as what they’re used to. But things can improve, and I’m sure they will. Many of the children of today attack the adults of today if they speak poorly of someone due to their race. Those same children would have been given a […]
I prefer to die a man who lived by principles that nobody could shake, and a man who added a bit of love to the world. – Lex Fridman From the intro to a podcast with Jay Bhattacharya. I also discussed this on Facebook.
I hope you all had a terrific year. My 2021 didn’t start so well, but it rapidly turned into the greatest year of my life. Hopefully it is the beginning of many more great years, for all of us. π β€οΈπ§‘π§‘ππππ π
