Leipzig city
Anna, Hanna, Teresa and myself made a day trip from Berlin to the nearby city of Leipzig.

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life
Public announcement: Due to my unhealthy cola drinking habits, I am quitting drinking cola for three months. Exceptions to this rule are: If there is nothing else to drink If someone (in person) tells me I’m allowed some (need new permission per serving). If a caffeine free cola is available I must choose that one. […]
I went on a cycle tour to Bernau today. We took an awesome route on super smooth roads. The total distance was 110 km, so I definitely feel tired now 🙂
RIP Dave Hall, an old friend of mine who I found out recently had died in a cycling accident.
Mo and I headed to Tempelhof to watch the inaugural Formula E grand prix of Berlin.
This is Nikolaikirche in Leipzig, an old church in the city of Leipzig. We passed by it on a walking tour of the city.
Ana and I went on a cycling trip to Grünerwald in Berlin.
Well this was a surprise. It’s not often you see a drug advertised on Facebook and realise that you are partly responsible for it! The chemical used in this “supplement” is MitoQ mesylate. I was the first one to synthesise it in the mesylate form back in 2004 🙂
Inline skating in Tiergarten. Not the best place to choose, but it was a pleasant day out 🙂
And even more photos from my cycling trip to Beelitz-Heilstätten, the military hospital famous for murders, Nazi’s Hitler and the Soviet army.
A group of us headed by bike to Werder, a small town south of Berlin to the Baumblütenfest (blossom festival) there.
More photos from the beautiful Beelitz-Heilstätten military hospital I visited recently.
Beautiful sunset from my temporary place in Berlin.
The Beelitz-Heilstätten military hospital I went to during a recent cycling trip is a good example of where some common sense is, well, sensible! Most of it is totally safe, but there are some areas which looked horrendously dangerous. If you go to the area, please watch out for collapsed roofs, dodgy railings and bad […]
Welcome to the glamorous Beelitz-Heilstätten lecture theatre. Despite many years of abandonment, I think this place still has better insulation and seating than most of the lecture theatres I remember from my years at university.

Some photos from an Easter day walk at Tegler See in Berlin.
I’ve been to quite a few abandoned places now. But Beelitz-Heilstätten is definitely the biggest. It’s also one of the most remote as there’s not a lot else in the area. I think the size and remoteness has resulted in a lot less vandalism and graffiti inside the buildings. There were some interesting creations though, […]
Context: Betahaus cafe intercom system was calling out (in English) when meals are ready. All I could hear was “chicken garble garble bla bla”, so I strolled on up to let them know it was inaudible. Me: “All I can hear is garble” Cook: “Gabel? Hier ist eine Gabel!” Me: “No, GARBLE, I can’t hear […]
It turns out the sun is harder to photograph than what one may imagine 😉 This photo was taken at 1/2000 of a second at F16.
I visited Akershus festning, a medieval castle built in the 1290’s in Oslo, Norway.
Comic app in development …
I suck royally at checking my mailbox. I decided it was time to fix that by buying a virtual office.
I went sledding at Korketrekkeren in Oslo. Don’t ask what the yellow stuff is, you don’t want to know!
Catching up with an old friend in Olso.
Some people fly across the ocean. But sometimes, so do cows!
It’s not often you stumble across a web page explaining how to burn an Islamic flag, and then find your name listed at the footer of the page. This happened to me this evening … http://beirutspring.com/blog/2014/08/30/how-to-burn-islamic-flags-without-upsetting-muslims/
Go home Google, you are drunk. I viewed the page https://www.google.com/work/search/products/gss.html and got the German language. I couldn’t read some of it, so I changed to a UK based IP and the page wouldn’t load. So I tried a USA based IP and I got the following. Basing languages off of geolocation is mind numbingly […]
One day the streets and dry and bare. Next day …
So it turns out that the Dear Leader Kim Jong Un uses exactly the same model of roller ball mouse as I do.
The “Beast of Beelitz” killed a total of five women, and had a propensity to steal pink lingerie.
In Canada, we must be polite.
Egads, this is what happens in Australian mode!
These are photos of an old, but once very grand bathroom in Beelitz-Heilstätten, the former military hospital I went to recently.
EDIT: The kind folks over at IFTTT fixed it for me 🙂 The folks over at IFTTT.com have a bug. I can no longer use my domain with it since I changed to hellyer.kiwi 🙁 Hopefully they’ll get it fixed soon 🙂
Sometimes Google outdoes itself with it’s shear awesomeness. I didn’t even need to click a link to get my answer.
I went on a hiking trip around Wandlitzsee, near Berlin. There were some really cool things to see, like mushrooms stuck to a tree, and a tree half chomped to bits by a beaver.
Need a fridge? In the Beelitz area? Well, just head on over to the Beelitz-Heilstätten (the old military hospital I went on a cycling trip to recently).
This was my view during my bike ride home recently. All I could hear was “Come to the light Ryan! Come to the light!”.
I took these at a small lake a few kilometers from my apartment this evening. Not enough to skate on, but it looks promising if we get a few more frosty evenings.
I went on a bike trip from Berlin to Beelitz-Heilstätten, an abandoned military hospital where Adolf Hitler was unfortunately repaired after having his ball blown off during World War 1.
I got to see some crazy looking drones at the Berlin airshow earlier this year.
Some idiot decided it was a good idea to go test out his new inline skates at 34° C! This was the hottest day of the year so far.
This is the price you pay for getting some exercise at the weekend! I managed to do this whilst walking for 27 km during a hiking trip just outside of Berlin.
Some more photos I took at the Berlin airshow earlier in the year …
