We take cash!
In Germany, it is extremely rare for shops to take cards. In New Zealand, the shops need to emphasise that they do indeed take cash in case people assume they don’t.

Thanks to Hannah for taking these photos with her flash during our visit to Bärenquell in Berlin.
Some of you may have heard that I bought a new Radio Control aircraft the other day. It came with an onboard video camera and even included an SD card. As far as I was aware, this aircraft was “made in Germany”. My German skills must be worse than I thought, as I can’t understand […]
The after party for WordCamp Praguein the Czech republic, is the only place I have seen food served inside a urinal.
Prague is a beautiful city with amazing architecture. I went there to attend WordCamp Praha 2014 and had a really nice time.
My new apartment has some stunning artwork on the walls. This particular master piece was created by a former tenant and improved upon by my lovely new Russian flatmate 🙂
This feels oddly familiar 😛
I caught some beautiful views of the Prague castle across the Vltava river.
was walking along the street one day, minding my own business. Nek minit I look through a fence and see an elephant!
I learned a new Norwegian word this evening, kebabnorsk. This literally translates to “Kebab Norwegian”, which means the language spoken by people in kebab shops in Norway. I’m pretty sure I’m fluent in kebabnorsk 🙂 Jeg tror at jeg er flytende pä kebabnorsk 🙂
I went on a skiing trip in Nordmarka, just outside of Oslo. It turns out that my skiing skills have not improved much since last year.
I’m just walking along, minding my own business listening to music in Berlin. Nekkminit, I look through a fence and see an elephant. It seems there are interesting things at every turn in Berlin!
I own a pair of Sony headphones which went through the washing machine once. They still work just fine. I wonder if it works with Sony Vaio’s too?
This image of a venus flytrap about to flower really captured my attention today. There’s some truly appealing about it, but I can’t quite pinpoint what.
Me, drinking 7up, whilst working for 10up, at co-up!
Thanks to Harriet for finding another ridiculously addictive thing to keep me from doing things I should be doing 😛 http://geoguessr.com/
Ummm, well, slightly out of place in this post, but I’m sure some East Germans used these for racing at some point 😛
A bunch of WordPress geeks went sledding in Norway. Here is the photographic evidence.
The problem I see with analysing climate science for the masses, is that almost all data presented to the common person is manipulated either for or against climate warming being a problem. Most of the junk I see flowing through my Facebook feed alerting to the horrors of global warming, is nothing more than fear […]
Some more photos from my trip with Michelle and Hannah to Bärehquell brewery.
I visited Bärehquell brewery with my friends Hannah and Michelle. The brewery went out of business in 1994.
I went to the Computerspielemuseum (computer game museum) in Berlin. I got to play Pacman with a giant super sized Atari 2600 controller.
I went for a wander down Karl Marx Allee in Berlin. I found some interesting cold war era features.
The last time I came to Berlin I only saw a small section of the former wall separating East and West Berlin. So I went on a walking tour.
Most of the old medical equipment at Lier sykehuset has been removed, but Alice and I did find a few things which were still there.
The top one is my current keyboard, the bottom one is the US equivalent. I always thought the keys were identical between countries! I guess not :/ Does anyone know if NZ computers come with US keyboards? I know the layout is typically set to US, but I’m wondering about the actual keys themselves.
Thanks to the lovely Sophia Dominguez for letting my try out her Google Glass. I had the pleasure of meeting her as she was touring around Europe.
Tutorials I’ve followed trying to get OpenVPN working in Ubuntu (none are working for me) … http://naveensnayak.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/ubuntu-openvpn-with-ovpn-file/ http://askubuntu.com/questions/187511/how-can-i-use-a-ovpn-file-with-network-manager https://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/459675:configure-linux-clients-to-connect-to-openvpn-server
Hmmm, it seems my typing speed has improved lately. That was with no warm up, no double take. Just randomly decided to do a test and out popped that result 🙂 Typing test result
Berlin is by far the busiest city I’ve ever been in at Christmas time! The place was cranking full tilt.
We found quite a bit of graffiti on the walls at Lier sykehuset, but I was actually surprised how little there was.
I saw this giant monstrosity of a fruit in a small stall in Berlin. I’d have bought one, but I don’t think I would have managed to finish it 😛
Building A at Lier sykehuset was unfortunately being destroyed. There was a small warning sign in front of the building.
My friend Alice and I visited the Lier sykehuset in Norway. Staff at Lier sykehuset conducted experiments with LSD, performed lobotomi’s.
The Reichstag is a spectacular looking building in Berlin, which was used by the German parliament from 1894 to 1933.
I climbed to the top of the Berlin Siegessäule (Victory Monument). The monument was originally built to commemorate the Danish-Prussian War.
I visited the “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” and “Sinti and Roma memorials” in Berlin.
I visited the Brandenburg gate in Berlin. This is a huge concrete monolith built in 1791.
The history of the Berlin wall is fascinating. The wall itself … not so much.
I visited the Nazi party rally grounds in Nürnberg. This area is where the German Nazi party held their huge party rallies between 1933 and 1938.
I visited the Nazi Congress Hall (Kongresshalle) in Nürnburg. It is a huge facility and is modeled on the Rome Colosseum.
I stayed in a nice little hostel in Nürnberg (Nuremburg) called the “Five Reasons”. It was cheap and very nice. It is situated right beside the Nürnberg city wall, a relic going back to the 12th and 16th centuries. About 4 km of the original 5 km wall is still standing. The moat surrounding the […]
I did a flying visit of Stuttgart whilst enroute to Tübingen in Germany. I didn’t stay long, but had time to do a quick tour around the city center.
Deep beneath this rather boring looking car park is the location where Adolf Hitler married his wife, then promptly blew his brains out with a pistol.
My visit to the Dachau concentration camp near München in Germany. A dump of photos I took during my visit.
I forgot to post these photos I took of weird shit in Japan. Apparently they like drinking sweat, buying coffee and cigarettes from vending machines …
