Here are some photos of the Britten V1000 on display at Te Papa. RIP John Britten 🙁
Te Papa had a Formula 1 exhibit on so I went to check it out. Here are some photos of Fellipe Massa’s Ferrari F2004. More photos to come …
I gave a presentation to a group of Dunedin business and IT people about PixoPoint. The event was kindly organised by the Distiller. Thanks to Dan Bregmen of Jism Unlimited for the photos.
I took these photos of the Southern Alps on my way to and from WordCamp NZ 2009 in Wellington.
I took these photos while flying out Wellington after attending WordCamp NZ.
I attended WordCamp NZ 2009 in Wellington recently. The conference speakers (that includes me) were invited to a hangi afterwards. That photo is actually a montage of three different photos. My old camera wasn’t up to the task of taking photos at night so I had to take two with the flash pointing in separate […]
Here are some photos from Central Otago in autumn the trip home after Sarah and I visited Queenstown.
Sarah and I went jetboating on the Shotover river near Queenstown.
Sarah and I went luging in Queenstown. It was lots of fun 🙂 Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of myself but here are some of Sarah’s steller driving skills.
Sarah and I headed to Queenstown for the weekend. Here are some photos of us at the top of the Gondola.
More photos from the Formula 1 exhibit at Te Papa. This time around it’s the 2006 McLaren Mercedes.
Some photos from my trip to Wellington. I’d travelled through/over the city a few times before, but this was the first time I’d had an opportunity to stop and look around. It’s a nice place, not somewhere I’d go as a tourist, but it definitely looks like a nice place to live.
During a tour of the Old City of Jerusalem, we got taken to the Western Wall (aka Wailing Wall) and the surrounding area.
I visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. It is built on the site where Jesus Christ was supposedly buried.
During our stopover in Japan, Vicki and I headed to the Shingon Buddhist temple in Narita city. According to Wikipedia: This temple is one of the most well known in the Kant region of Japan and is only surpassed in visitors during the O-shogatsu period (lit: New year period) by the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. […]
Some photos from when Sarah I visited McLean falls in the Catlins.
Sarah I visited the beautiful Purakanui falls in the Catlins.
Sarah and I visited Nugget Point in the Catlins.
Sarah and I headed to my parents crib (holiday house) in Toko Mouth for the night, before heading south to the Catlins for some site seeing. More photos from the Catlins coming soon …
Julia Rinck who I met in Germany last year came to visit our lab for four months. I picked her up in Christchurch and on the way back we visited the Baby Blue penguin colony in Oamaru. It was quite late before they came ashore and we weren’t allowed very close, so unfortunately the photos […]
Vicki Argyle and I experienced this awesome sunset while in Leiden in the Netherlands.
Victoria Argyle and I visited Suzanna and Cory Black in Leiden in the Netherlands.
Vicki and I used Amsterdam as our base for moving around Europe. They have lots of canals … lots of canals.
Apparently this is what people resort to when stuck in Europe with me for a whole month!
Here are some photos I forgot to add from my trip around sooty, icky London.
After traversing the Rhine, Vicky, Vikas and I headed north to Cologne. We didn’t spend much time there, but the huge Cathedral in the middle of the city sure is an impressive site. Construction started in 1248 and didn’t finish until 1880! It was the tallest man-made structure in the world until 1884. Cologne was […]
Vikas took Vicki and I up the scenic Rhine river. There are Castles everywhere along the banks of the river.
Vickas took Vicki and I to the Hockenheimring in Germany, the home of the German grandprix. There were no cars racing that day, just testing. But it was nice to see (in person) the track I’ve driven around in so many video games.
Ya know how in the movies the cows in Germany have bells on them? Well apparently those crazy Germans actually do attach bells to the poor cows! I have no idea why they do this. Imagine how insane you would go if some dork attached a bell around your neck! Every time you moved you […]
Vikas Aggarwal took Victoria Argyle and I to the Technik Museum Speyer in Germany. They had all sorts of different types of locomotion including trains, planes, automobiles and underwater submarines. We got strapped to the side of a Boeing 747 and taken for a flight. It was quite blustery but I managed to snap the following pic […]
When in the Black Forest, we all went photo crazy with lots of pictures to be taken of the beautiful scenery.
Vikas Aggarwaal took us to the Black Forest in south western Germany. The scenery made it feel like home 🙂 We took a short Gondola ride to the top of a ski field (summer season) and went on a scenic walk through the forest.
Our lab got renovated recently. It doesn’t look anything like this old school chemistry lab we saw at the Heidelberg castle though!
Look away now if you don’t like seeing icky stuff. The following photos are of the internals of my shoulder as seen through an athroscopic probe during a Bankhardt repair performed in late November.
Vicki and I stopped over in Japan on our way back from Europe. Here are some lovely photos of the wonderful delicacies you can enjoy whilst visiting 😀 I also tried authentic Japanese sushi and a few other generic local foods, but I won’t bore you with photos of those.
Here are some photos I found kicking around on my hard drive that I’d forgotten to upload to the web.
After our day trip to Karlsruhe, Vicki and I met up with Vikas == (another former labmate of mine) and headed over to Heidelberg. When we arrived, we met up with my old friend Sandra and Vikas’s friend Stephanie. The city is incredibly beautiful. High up on the hilltop is the famous Heidelberg Castle which […]
After galavanting around England, Vicki Argyle and I headed off to Karlsruhe in Germany, where Frederik (my ex-labmate) picked us up from the airport and took us to the “Institut für Anorganische Chemie der Universität Karlsruhe”, which is the inorganic chemistry department of Karlsruhe university. We got to meet Frederik’s lab mates, including Julia who […]
And the prize for the busiest tourist attraction in London goes to … the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. I took the photo below by standing on my tippy toes, waving my camera held high and clicking away in the vain hope that I’d get a photo of something interesting. Vicki tried the […]
I’m having a Bankart repair done on my shoulder on Monday. Below are some photos of my shoulder. Uunfortunately you can’t see much damage as it’s the soft tissue which needs repaired. My shoulder pops out of the socket on a regular basis ever since I was body checked in a non-contact ice hockey game. […]
I travelled to Brighton in Southern England to visit my friend Kerry Perkins. There were lots of lobster coloured people on the beach, er stones. Nice place, but I’d recommend avoiding the fish ‘n’ chips, they’re a little nasty. Below is a nice photo taken from the Brighton pier at sunset. After hanging out in […]
It seems they have squirrels in London! I took this photo of a very friendly one in Hyde Park. Check out my other squirrel photos too: Squirrel in the Rockies Squirrel in Calgary
I visited London. Lots of sooty polution and lots of people. According to wonderful people like Jenni, it is quite awesome and I just didn’t see the awesome bits apparently.
Remember my post about being run over by a car? It happened again! Except this time it happened to my flatmate, and by ‘it happened again’, I mean literally. Mary was mowed down by an evil man at exactly the same corner, on exactly the same side of the street and going in exactly the […]
Videos from an awesome trip to the Manorburn dam.
I’m not going to go into the details here, but we almost got kidnapped on entering Palestine. After that, I wasn’t particularly interested in taking out my camera to take photos. Thankfully Vicki Argyle took some photos of our visit. Since things were a little stressed during our trip, we didn’t do anything beyond taking […]
