I went on an awesome hike in Berlin today to Pfaueninsel (Peacock island). It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I stumbled across an amusement park called “Spreepark” which has been abandoned since 2001.
The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the world’s first fighter jet, and I got see one at the Berlin airshow.
My friend Anna and I visted Dresden. I’d heard great things about the architecture in the city and was not disappointed.
This is why you should always take wet weather gear! A beautiful hiking trip turned into a sodden set experience at the end.

I saw a Mikoyan MiG-29 at the Berlin airshow. These days, they’re old and not considered cutting edge anymore.
I agreed to go to “SĂ€chsische Schweiz” for a hiking trip. “Schweiz” is German for “Switzerland”, so logically, I assumed I was going to Switzerland.
We saw this beautiful waterfall on our hiking trip in Sachsen.
I’m staying in a totally sweet new flat in Berlin. I found out about it from an old acquaintance from my years at Corstorphine school, Caroline van Zyl.
Ze Germans put on a terrific show, including this crazy nutter who decided it was a smart idea to stand on the wing whilst doing a pushover!
In Berlin, hiking means to go for a walk in the “wilderness”. In Berlin, “wilderness” refers to the bushy bits between the buildings.
We had an obstdöner party at Sara’s place đ An obstdöner is a fruit kebab, and they taste amazing!
Berliners are very proud that their city is the home of the Doner kebab. Little did I know, that they also do fruit kebabs here.

I visited BĂ€rehquell brewery with my friends Hannah and Michelle. The brewery went out of business in 1994.
I went to the Computerspielemuseum (computer game museum) in Berlin. I got to play Pacman with a giant super sized Atari 2600 controller.
I went for a wander down Karl Marx Allee in Berlin. I found some interesting cold war era features.
The last time I came to Berlin I only saw a small section of the former wall separating East and West Berlin. So I went on a walking tour.

Berlin is by far the busiest city I’ve ever been in at Christmas time! The place was cranking full tilt.
The Reichstag is a spectacular looking building in Berlin, which was used by the German parliament from 1894 to 1933.
I climbed to the top of the Berlin SiegessÀule (Victory Monument). The monument was originally built to commemorate the Danish-Prussian War.
I visited the “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” and “Sinti and Roma memorials” in Berlin.
I visited the Brandenburg gate in Berlin. This is a huge concrete monolith built in 1791.

I visited the Nazi party rally grounds in NĂŒrnberg. This area is where the German Nazi party held their huge party rallies between 1933 and 1938.
I visited the Nazi Congress Hall (Kongresshalle) in NĂŒrnburg. It is a huge facility and is modeled on the Rome Colosseum.
I stayed in a nice little hostel in NĂŒrnberg (Nuremburg) called the “Five Reasons”. It was cheap and very nice. I did a flying visit of Stuttgart whilst enroute to TĂŒbingen in Germany. I didn’t stay long, but had time to do a quick tour around the city center.
Deep beneath this rather boring looking car park is the location where Adolf Hitler married his wife, then promptly blew his brains out with a pistol.

I have moved away from Norway where I have made my home for the past two years. It feels sad, as I do love Norway, the people, and will miss my life there.
I saw a terrible reminder of the history of Berlin whilst walking down the street. Bullet holes left on building walls from World War 2 could be clearly seen.

I met up with my old colleague Vikas in TĂŒbingen. We had some genuine German food and had a beautiful view of houses beside the Neckar river.
I visited MĂŒnchen (aka Munich) in the heart of Bavaria. I made a new friend called Jen at the hostel I was staying at.
I visited the Kölner Dom (aka Cologne Cathedral) in Köln. I went again the morning after and climbed to the top.
I visited Bonn, where I had some awesome beer, including a slightly strange but tasty brew called a “kristall weiss”. I also visited the Bonn MĂŒnster.
My lovely friend Nadia decided to try beer for the first time. She however made the n00b mistake of deciding to try cheap nasty Norwegian alcohol free beer.
Steffi and I headed to a small viewing platform beside the Rhine river, near Duisburg.
