Pilot Whales
Liuba and I took a boat trip in Tenerife to go see Pilot Whales in the wild. Such majestic beasts.

Melissa and I went to see some Baby Blue penguins at the Oamaru colony. Unfortunately it was nearly impossible to get a good photo due to the crappy lighting but below is the best I managed.
Krissi’s plucky little dog Dougs kept me well entertained over the new years period. He even outpaced the humans whilst mountain biking up a steep hill!
It seems people are fascinated about where I end up on my weekends, so here are some snaps from a couple of weeks ago. I ended up somewhat lost during a cycling trip as I forgot my phone so had no Google maps, I had an awful map which barely showed any detail and I […]
The weather turned to poo in Tromsø, so Harriet and I headed to the local aquarium to entertain ourselves for the afternoon.
We have a new member of our office. His name is Bob Skywalker.
Apparently snow is edible! These pigeons were pulling out all sorts of edible delights from within the snow pack. And here I was thinking it was nothing but water! And a bonus photo of a duck 🙂
I’m currently blobbing out at Changi airport in Singapore en route to Norway. This is definitely the most pleasant short-term stopover I’ve ever experienced. The whole airport is just “nice”. Lots of shops, lots of good food, lots of pleasant little indoor garden areas, good transport around the terminals (and between them) and not overly […]
Chris Laing spotted this giant flying insect whilst we were walking along the Matukituki track in Mount Aspiring National Park. It was around 10 – 12 cm long. I assume it’s a Dragonfly but am not sure – if you can confirm or provide more information about it, please leave a comment below!
During our stopover in Japan, Vicki and I headed to the Shingon Buddhist temple in Narita city. According to Wikipedia: This temple is one of the most well known in the Kant region of Japan and is only surpassed in visitors during the O-shogatsu period (lit: New year period) by the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. […]
Vicki Argyle and I experienced this awesome sunset while in Leiden in the Netherlands.
Ya know how in the movies the cows in Germany have bells on them? Well apparently those crazy Germans actually do attach bells to the poor cows! I have no idea why they do this. Imagine how insane you would go if some dork attached a bell around your neck! Every time you moved you […]
It seems they have squirrels in London! I took this photo of a very friendly one in Hyde Park. Check out my other squirrel photos too: Squirrel in the Rockies Squirrel in Calgary
Continuing my trend of writing blog posts totally out of sync, here are some photos from a recent trip to the Otago Peninsula. I acted as tour guide for visiting student Meghan Dunn during her visit here. My previous attempts to find penguins for tourists has always failed. I usually the find the pesky little […]
Our uber awesome, wonderful and truly incredible professional ice hockey coach Jenel Bode is leaving 🙁 Hopefully she’ll be back next year though 🙂 Rhyan McMillan and our uber awesome coach Jenel Bode For her goodbye bash, she organised a goodbye party in a cave at Longbeach. It sounded boring, getting stuck in a cave […]
I was dressed in a Yellow Eyed Penguin suit as the mascot for the World Friendship Ice Hockey Games. There were teams from USA, Canada, Australia, Korea and New Zealand. The suit was ridiculously hot inside and skating became more of a sliding waddle 😛 The kids seemed to enjoy it though and none of […]
Vicky Argyle, Tasha Munro, Lisa McClintock and I all ventured south from Hobart to visit the Hastings Caves. The caves are truly spectacular and you can get some wonderful pictures inside. There’s a sign outside saying you aren’t allowed to use a tripod, but the guide told me it was okay as long as I […]
Aside from the occasional near miss with wallabies and possums scampering across the road in front of our car we (me, Lisa and Vicky) also visited a wildlife sanctuary between Port Arthur and Hobart.
My series of photos of strange looking but probably quite common birds continues. Is this a duck or what? I shot this photo in a little town just north of Hobart in Tasmania.
Mark Hareb, my flatmate Dars and myself went tramping on the Silverpeaks route, just out of Dunedin. Things started badly when my giant three liter bottle of water split only half an hour into the tramp. I carried it in for another hour and ditched at the turnoff where we would be arriving back to […]
I visited the Royal Albatross colony with a new flatmate. The colony is at the end of Otago Peninsula only 30 mins drive from Dunedin.
Anna and I headed down to the Catlins only a few days after we both arrived back in New Zealand. The scenery was great and the lighting was perfect for some decent photography.
There’s some great views of Alcatraz from the shore in San Francisco and from on the Golden Gate bridge.
I kept wondering what these crazily bright coloured but very common birds were in Vancouver. It turns out they’re just Seagulls! I felt a little silly when I found out 😛 This particular shot took about 500 attempts to get. Those darn birds move way to fast!
There was lots of wildlife around Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains. Including chipmunks, birds and although I didn’t see the bear itself, there were even bear droppings on the track I was walking on. Scarily they were fresh droppings!
Princes Island Park is a small island which is separated from downtown Calgary by a small strip of water from the Bow river. There’s lots of wild life, greenery and picnic areas to enjoy.
Well what do you do when you’re stuck in a strange foreign land on Christmas day? You have a Christmas orphans dinner that’s what! Gregor and I bought a turkey, got a bunch of other foreigners (Gregor’s from Oz) and then we deep fried the little bugger – the turkey, not the foreigners! The locals […]
I’ve visited Banff township in Banff National park in the rocky mountains a few times now. It’s only an hour and a bit away from Calgary. It’s similar to Queenstown but without the lake. There’s lots of hiking (tramping) and site seeing to be down there. The above photo is of Tunnel Mountain. It’s not […]
Family trip to Orana Park in Christchurch some time in the 1980’s.
This was the last time I went fishing. As you can see, the last time I went fishing was quite successful 🙂 I caught 17 fish in total. Unfortunately the adults ate all of my fish, I never got to have any 🙁
